Exploring Ireland on our own
In
November, our teacher Mrs Six offered us the opportunity to gather experience
abroad by working in the language school named “Active Language Learning”
located in Dublin, Ireland.
The project got promoted by Erasmus+ which is financed by the European Union.
The four of us applied as an intern to the manager of the school, Kieron Mahon, and we all got accepted.
Afterwards we got in touch with Mr Ewald Hölzl from Erasmus+, who is responsible for the promotions and who advised us before, during and after our internship.
Our journeys started in July and August, because we divided the four working weeks up in two each.
At the
arrival, our host family consisting of Emma and Ian with their two little girls
warmly welcomed us.
For our temporary stay, we had a floor including a bathroom on our own. We had
so much luck because they were, as the majority of the Irish, very helpful,
solicitous and kind people.
Apart from
the interest in the Irish culture we also wanted to get work experience abroad.
Therefore, we determined our working days from Monday to Friday 9 am to 4 pm
including Sunday. In the “kids school”, we had to learn that the job as an
intern isn’t always the sunny side of life. In the course of the 2 weeks there
we also got tasks which were not that demanding and sometimes even tedious, but
we were glad to get the job with its advantages and disadvantages.
In the adult school, we had the chance to get an actual insight into the company. There, the main tasks were to create student maps in the online system of the school, translating the website and correcting the boarding tests of the newly arrived students.
Beside working we became acquainted with the culture of Ireland, the breathtaking landscape, the inhabitants and their mentality and of course with the Irish beer.
Summing up, we say that it was worth all the effort and we can only recommend you to experience this one-of-a-kind adventure on your own because you won’t regret it!
